Further vocational and specialist vocational qualifications

You can complete further vocational and specialist vocational qualifications through an apprenticeship. Read more about apprenticeship training.

  • Apprenticeship training requires that you have a job in the relevant field, suitable for the training.
  • Apprenticeship training is free of charge for the student, except for possible learning material costs.

Some programmes can only be completed through an apprenticeship and in the Finnish language.

Note! Contact the teacher in charge of a specific programme if

  • you are interested in completing a unit of the qualification at your own expense (i.e. you do not have an apprenticeship job) or
  • if you wish to complete only the skills demonstration without attending the training and you have sufficient education and work experience in the field.

Further vocational qualifications

A further vocational qualification is designed to acquire and deepen professional skills in a specific field.

Students pursuing a further vocational qualification are often expected to have basic knowledge of the field, either through an initial vocational qualification or work experience.

The required skills for the further vocational qualification are demonstrated during the training through practical assessments in a real work environment.

Completing a further vocational qualification provides general eligibility for further studies, meaning that those who complete the qualification can apply to universities and universities of applied sciences.

Specialist vocational qualifications

A specialist vocational qualification is suitable for professionals who have already had a diverse career and want to update and enhance their skills. A specialist vocational qualification demonstrates that the graduate has mastered the most demanding tasks in their field.

The required skills for the specialist vocational qualification are demonstrated during the training through practical assessments in a real work environment.

Completing a specialist vocational qualification provides general eligibility for further studies, meaning that those who complete the qualification can apply to universities and universities of applied sciences.
